2007 Viognier
The rising star in Australian wine, Viognier is actually an ancient grape which has been used to make wine in small pockets of Europe for over 2,000 years. However, its growing reputation as a fine wine grape has had much to do with the recent plantings in Australian regions such as Mudgee, where growing conditions allow it to develop to its true potential.
This pale gold coloured wine shows apricot, citrus and subtle star anise aromas. The palate exhibits good concentration with tight lemon/lime notes and orange peel. The finish is long and intense with a whisker of sugar for balance. A lovely wine which pairs well with a wide range of foods.
Cellaring Potential: Likely to age well, but is drinking superbly now, so why wait?
Wine Maker: Moore Haszard
NEWS FLASH
The W Wine 2007 Viognier won the only Gold medal and was judged best in the 2007 viognier class at the Australian Alternative Varieties Show. Only one other out of 80 viognier wines judged across two classes, matched our wine: the 96 point James Halliday rated The Virgilius, that sells for more than twice the price of our Viognier!
